Crystal tableware occupies a distinctive place in the history of decorative arts, prized for its luminosity, durability, and the craftsmanship required to shape it. The Cristallerie Saint-Louis has been creating crystal tableware for hundreds of years, guided by techniques and artistic principles refined over generations. Still part of our collections today, many of these archival designs preserve a direct link between centuries of know-how and the continuity of decorative traditions.
Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, our crystal tableware collections evolved alongside changing dining traditions. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, a transformation in gastronomy introduced the custom of placing individual glasses at the table. Responding to this shift, the Cristallerie Saint-Louis created its first stemmed glasses, including the Trianon collection in 1834, inspired by the Russian-style service in which multiple glasses of different sizes accompanied each guest. Over time, our collections continued to reflect artistic movements and cultural influences, from Caton in 1877 – shaped by a sense of imperial elegance – to Thistle in 1913, a design inspired by the emblem of Nancy, a city closely associated with the flourishing Art Nouveau movement.
Among the collections created during the past century, Tommy remains one of the most emblematic expressions of Saint-Louis craftsmanship. Introduced in 1928, the design is characterized by an elaborate combination of cutting techniques and a striking star-shaped base. Over time, this legacy continued to evolve through new artistic directions, notably with Bubbles in 1992 – our first collaboration with the Hermès family – alongside more avant-garde collections such as Express in 2007 and Folia in 2017.
At the Cristallerie Saint-Louis, crystal tableware is designed to accompany a wide range of moments around the table, from intimate dinners to larger soirées. Suited to different beverages, you can discover champagne flutes, wine glasses, water glasses, and glasses for tea or coffee. In each piece, the brilliance of crystal reflects the meticulous French craftsmanship that defines our work.
Choosing a crystal table service means embracing an object d’art that carries with it both a legacy shaped by history and the brilliance of enduring craftsmanship. Explore a selection that celebrates table setting as a beautiful form of decorative art.
