JOSÉ LÉVY
The devilish magic of Les Endiablés
"Born of a spontaneous, almost impetuous impulse, they embody one of those rare moments when creativity breaks free of its confines to give rise to a myth." José Lévy
Recently appointed as Creative Director of the France pavilion at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, José Lévy explores the decorative arts and art installations with equal intensity. Always putting the human element at the heart of his work, he creates unique, intimate objects and forges links between his creations and their users. A Villa Kujoyama laureate and Knight of the French Order of Arts and Letters, José Lévy designs for an audience that values both history and new horizons.
A Saint-Louis partner of many years’ standing, he designed the first generation of Les Endiablés in 2011, followed by the Corollaire vases in 2012. His creative universe plays endlessly with otherness and reappropriation, creating objects whose use is left open, to be guided by each individual’s imagination.
This is not a glass
Glass or egg cup, hourglass, candlestick, sculpture or vase... Les Endiablés refuse to be defined by a single function, instead shifting with the moment, the mood or the desires of the person contemplating them.
Freedom joins forces with Saint-Louis’ technical and historical excellence in a vibrant dialogue between the iconic cuts and decorations on the Tommy, Stella, Apollo and Bubbles collections, and the reincarnation of the discontinued Cerdagne and Chambord lines. In a bold palette of colours – chartreuse green, amethyst, flannel grey, deep greens and bright blues – Les Endiablés almost resemble crystal dolls, the heirs to an exceptional legacy and unleashed by the creative boldness of their designer.
In this simple and radical creative gesture of intentional versatility, José Lévy infuses the pieces with a spirit that is at once liberated, fun and carefree, transforming each one into a playful companion that is asking to be flipped over, turned on its side, collected and simply contemplated. These pieces are never the right way or wrong way up, but they can always be found where you least expect them, and in the right place.
