PRESTIGE FLANNEL-GREY CHESS SET

This prestige chess set features a chessboard composed of clear or black optical glass cubes, resting on a powder-coated aluminum base. • The king and the queen both draw inspiration from the Twist 1586 collection carafe stopper, one inverted, the other upright. Faceted, their crown-like tops evoke royalty. The queen’s flared base allows movement in any direction, while the king’s rounded base reflects the care taken in choosing the single square available to him per turn. The king is slightly taller than the queen to ensure clear distinction.
• The bishop reinterprets the Botticelli stopper. It twists upon itself and seems to stagger, as it traditionally does on a board it traverses only diagonally.
• The rook, massive and impregnable, is cut from the part of the stopper that prevents air from entering a carafe. Its wide cylindrical base allows it to travel, in a single move, along any accessible straight line.
• The pawn, reimagining the Amadeus stopper, is designed as a reminiscence of a Templar’s helmet, as it is the most frequently sacrificed piece.
• The knight, finally, stands apart from the others, whose appearance is smooth and refined. Its living, natural form recalls the fervor associated with it, as it is the piece that guides movement in battle, moving in an L-shape.

The flannel color is one of the most recent shades in the Saint-Louis palette. Nearly a century and a half after “pigeon gray” and “beryl” in 1930, this hue was introduced in 2004 and astonishes with its modernity, reminding us that Saint-Louis has been at the forefront of crystal coloration since the early 19th century.
